God, You Amaze Me: The Road Less Travelled.

Hey y’all!

This week flew by so quickly. And I wasn’t sure how things would look not having a car. But overall, not much changed.

One thing is for sure, I will save money on groceries, cuz I will only end up buying what I can carry – and that’s the necessities.

This week, I ended up walking to the Post. Since I had a parcel that needed collecting, but 22 mins one way is pretty good. Obviously a car would save time, and is smart –but that’s if you have a car. Because time truly is money. I see how without having a car, one is compelled, well more like “forced” you to do things you wouldn’t normally do. Like walk to the Post. And it was on my walk that I noticed things I hadn’t noticed, then when I had been driving. Which I miss, as I love driving haha. But its true. I walked past the shops and saw a place you can put your old clothes, so they’re given a second life. I recently was wondering if there was a place nearby, I could donate my old clothes. And this whole time I have lived in my area – going on 5 months, I never knew it existed. But see, without a car, it has made me slow down and plan better. To manage my time wisely and widen my perspective.

We see even Jesus, by having the love of the Father, was compelled to lay down His life for us. Just like unexpected events force us to adjust with the new changes, there is positives to it and ways to grow – and save money haha.

The love of God we get to know and experience comes from a relationship with the Father. And it is from this place of having His love in us, that we become compelled to love others. It’s not the worldly love. But God’s true love, which He demonstrated on the cross.

Love is described in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8, that it never fails and consists of many characteristics. There will be days that we find it hard to love others, and that’s normal, our flesh is weak. Although, the closer we draw near to God each day, the more naturally His love will overflow from us to others.

It is His love that compels us!

Through Jesus’ love on the cross, knowing God loved us – though sinners, but He sent His son to take our place – we can run to Him.

This is different to being “forced” to go another way because you no longer have a car. But it’s true. Sometimes things, feelings or situations make us do stuff we wouldn’t normally do. Like you see in those cheesy Hallmark movies, the love one has for other makes them chase after the other before they leave for another state, or have you ever had a moment that you see someone you know but you just didn’t want to talk to them, so you walk the opposite direction? You can be honest? This happens. Funny how we would go out of our way to walk miles, if it meant we could avoid some people.

But rather than avoid people, God wants us to love others as we grow in our relationship with Him. Through experiencing and knowing His love for us and others, we can love ourselves and others better.

It is by receiving and accepting His love, that we are compelled to share that love with those around us.

God, you amaze me!

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 NIV

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

God’s love compels us
