Hey all!
This week was another great week!
My God Wink was all about being slow to judge or come to a decision.
See I recently got a second-hand air pod max – basically brand new – but in the process of getting it, I almost chickened out. You see the air pods were a great price and everything checked out. But for once I Googled how to know if it is genuine, because I don’t want to end up in a pickle of being scammed, cuz it happens. I just wanted to be sure. It is because these airpods had a story of being gifted and no longer want, as they already had a pair and they even had all the receipts. But even their texting I was a little suss. See, they were like “where’s good to meet for the transaction?” Haha but maybe I was just reading too much into it, and I realise now maybe English wasn’t their first language. But it got me thinking, though they wanted cash, how can I know what I’ll be getting is genuine?
So, when I searched how to check, it said you can use the Apple website to check the serial number. And when I checked multiple times, it said the serial number was invalid – thus fake. This led me to quickly blow off the meeting for the transaction. But then something inside me said to check again. Because she had provided me every reason to trust her, with the screenshots of warranty and receipts. Though when I tried, I didn’t get the same info she provided…something in me felt like she was being legit. Although the invalid serial number could only solidified my belief that it was fake.
Anyway, rather than copying and pasting the serial number from her screenshot. I checked the serial number one more time and type it in. And sure enough, the serial number read “valid”.
This week I also was in really bad traffic, after it was peak hour. Sometimes we underestimate the time it will take even with Google Maps ETA, because so much can change – whether it be re-routing because you miss your exit or the roads get busier. You gotta risk it sometimes. See it wasn’t worth the drive, because I feel like that was the longest traffic I’ve experienced. But learning patience made it worth it. Its bittersweet. In the slow of the traffic, you learn to appreciate the moments when traffic clears and you can pick up speed.
Even more, I went to Woolies earlier this week. Google said they were open, but when I got there after needing to take a detour (due to cyclone) the shops were closed.
What I realise from this week, is that if we are quick to come to a decision without truly checking for ourselves, we will never know the outcome – whether air pods were genuine or Woolies is truly open or not! Either good or bad. That’s not to say don’t make good decisions. Yes make wise decisions. But it comes from fact. Even myself I can be quick to judge and assume things. It’s so easy to do so. But without driving to Woollies – how would I have known that they were actually not open but indeed closed? I had a drive to check, haha the obvious reason – I wanted food. Without checking the serial number multiple times – how would I have known, what she said checked out? Honestly, when I saw the serial number be invalid, I kinda was sad. And it hit me after, “what if this is legit?” I miss the perfect opportunity for a deal close by for something I was wanting. See I was curious to do some hard work and try multiple attempts to have the benefit of the doubt. Because I wanted to know truly if it was genuine or fake. If you don’t have a drive, you’d probs stop after your first finding, when you do what I did – and rely on the first outcome you found – “invalid serial number”. This is low stakes. But what about high stakes? How much effort do you put, to find out if your initial judgement or assumption is correct? Like in science, when your in school you run multiple experiments, tests and trials, even with a controlled test, to see if you prove or disprove your hypothesis. You don’t just settle on the first test, because there’s so many variables that make it both unfair and uncertain. You must try many.
Say you wanted the best deal on your fav new shoes. You wouldn’t buy the first thing you see. No! You’d search many websites, compare the prices and come to the decision.
Even with the driving. Sometimes you never know how bad it is until you try. You don’t know, what you don’t know.
So what we can learn, is to make the most of every opportunity. Take a risk and put in the hard efforts. But most importantly learn from everything.
And even more in God and His Word. We have to be eager to search for truth and go through the hard efforts of reading His Word. When at first it can seem so hard and boring. Truly the more we spend in His Word, the more we see the value and can make the judgement that “wait…God. Your Word is truly life to my Spirit”. Even in this week, I can reflect while yes there was situations where I might have been quick to make a decision but even with others how I should be slow to judge [Luke 6:37]. And as we saw that when I came to know the truth, how freeing it was. To know for sure the air pods was real by checking and then checking in person [John 8:32]. Otherwise, I’d probs live in regret and questioning “what if?”, if I didn’t go and check. without b

Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.

Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
