God, You Amaze Me: Just Ask for Help.

Hey y’all!

Another week has passed, and Easter is fast approaching. It’s always when I least expect it and at the end of the week when I realise what it is I should share with y’all. This week is no different. This week I learnt that if you ask, you will receive. Also, it’s biblical as it is mentioned in Matthew 7:7-8. But obviously in context.

This week it happened at work; and I saw it in a IG reel by Sofia Jones – where she asks the ice-cream van owner if she could make her own ice-cream, and she got the opportunity (so you never know unless you ask) and also when I was making bread. It’s about making bread that I want to share.

See, recently I was delighted to receive from my mum starter. Now, your probs wondering, “Hmm starter. What’s that?” Starter is used as a catalyst in sourdough bread making, it’s used to make the bread raise – like yeast.

Keep in mind I never made sourdough bread before, besides the weekend prior when I shadowed my mum, mid-way to the end of the baking process.

See just yesterday, I followed the recipe and now imma now need to add some extra notes. I began adding the discarded starter with the flour and water, while I fed the starter to use for next time. After some kneading of the dough, I placed the mix in a tin lined with a tea towel, following what I remembered my mum did. The towel is supposed to stop the dough sticking to the tin, as its quite sticky mix. Then I let it sit to proof. Once done, I didn’t hesitate to go off memory, because the recipe didn’t explain much detail, other than to next bake it in the oven. So, I just chucked it into the oven. I didn’t recall exactly what my mum did when I shadowed, as I was playing Mario Kart on the Switch with my sisters – who were kicking my butt, as my mum ended up finishing the last steps of the baking.

Mmm, but about 10 mins of the bread in the oven, I had this thought that the towel might not be a safe idea to put in the oven – as I witnesses some smoke in the oven near the towel. Yes! Because I kept the towel in the tin. And sure enough I googled, and it says DO NOT put a towel in the oven. Also note that to bake such bread the oven must be set to 250 degrees Celsius! Sure enough I rush to the oven and swap out and place the dough into another tin, this time without the towel. It cooked and tasted divine – btw no harm was caused in the making of the bread.

Moral of the story, when in doubt or if you’re ever trying new things don’t be afraid to ask for help. Kinda like in life, we need to rely on God more in all aspects of our life. And that’s what prayer is [1 Thessalonians 5:17]. For us constant communication is how we learn from God for direction and guidance.

Not only this, but even this week I noticed how sometimes my answer can be changed when I am questioned, as it makes me second guess and reevaluate what others think or have said. But, in our faith we must be firm despite what others say. Even in baking, we must know for certain the correct way to approach the process and be guided by those who have gone before us. And God, He also goes before us! [Deuteronomy 31:8]

God, you amaze me!

Matthew 7:7-8 NIV

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

1 Thessalonians 5:17 NIV

pray continually,

Deuteronomy 31:8 NIV

The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.

God knows the answer
